Daily Scripture & Questions
I Corinthians 12-14 These three chapters deal with spiritual gifts: first generally and then specifically, prophecy and tongues.  Why are spiritual gifts given to believers (12:7)?  Who decides who gets what gifts (12:11, 18)?  Do all possess any one gift (12:27-30)?  What is the still more excellent way than merely seeking the higher gifts (12:31)?  How does true love change the dynamic of how the gifts are used in the body of believers?  In seeking to define "tongues" from chapter 14, what are the characteristics of this gift that is given to some (see 14:2, 4, 14-17, 28; compare Acts 10:46)?  In public, should there be tongue speaking if it is not interpreted?  Prophecy is spoken in understandable words, based on something that God suddenly brings to the mind of the speaker.  These words are given for what purposes (14:3, 25, 30)?  They are not authoritative like the Bible, but rather they must be weighed (14:29).  How is 14:40 a good summary of these instructions for public worship?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read I Corinthians 13:1-13. If we use our spiritual gifts or do tremendous sacrificial things but don't have the motive of love, what is the end value in God's eyes? In verses 4-7, you can put Jesus' name where the word "love" is, and it still makes sense and it is true. When you put your name in, where does the passage ring true? At what point do you need to ask God for greater love?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 54:1-3  O God, save me by your name, and vindicate me by your might.  O God, hear my prayer;  give ear to the words of my mouth.  For strangers have risen against me; ruthless men seek my life; they do not set God before themselves. Selah

Whether our enemies are people we know or the spiritual forces of darkness, we need to give the battle to God in prayer.   Ask the Lord to show His might on your behalf and for those who you are praying.    Ask that He would make clear if you are not "on His side" so that you can change quickly.
