Daily Scripture & Questions
I Corinthians 4-6 Paul points to the arrogance of the Corinthian church a number of times.  In chapter four, contrast the way they saw themselves and how the apostles were viewed.  In chapter five, there is another display of pride, probably disguised as being accepting and gracious.  What blatant sin was the church tolerating?  In 5:9-13, the text speaks strongly of discipline within the church.  Why is this loving and not mean?  Chapter six raises two specific issues:  lawsuits and sexual immorality.  In 6:9-11, it makes clear that those who continue to practice such sins and others will not be saved. If someone has truly been saved, then they have been . . . (what in 6:11)?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read
I Corinthians 4:1-7. Can we really know and judge someone's heart? Can we judge even our own hearts accurately? Who should we allow to be the judge of our hearts and the motives of others? Does this mean that we shouldn't hold other people responsible for their actions (methods)? Look at verses 19-21 and see that the apostle Paul was ready to discipline the believers for their actions. In making decisions, what are we not to "go beyond" (see verse 6)? How does this make the study of God's word so important?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 73:23-25  Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand.  You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.  Whom have I in heaven but you?  And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.

Give praise for God's continual presence with His people.   He has promised to comfort, guide and protect through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Ask Him to fulfill His promises and to help you run your race today, looking to the finish line of spending eternity with Him in heaven.
