Daily Scripture & Questions
Acts 18:19-19:41 These verses present the end of the second and the beginning of the third missionary journey of the apostle Paul.  Several inadequate understandings of the gospel truth are presented.  Apollos has taught accurately but incompletely about Jesus.  The disciples of John, in chapter 19, had only heard about John the Baptist's message and not how Jesus had fulfilled that of which John spoke.  What was the falsehood that the sons of Sceva operated under?  Have you fully renounced any past involvement in non-Christian practices (see 19:18-20)?  How is the account of the silversmiths in the Ephesus riot indicative that faith in Christ radically changed people?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read Acts 19:11-20. Who were the sons of Sceva? How did they think that they could have the same spiritual power as the apostle Paul? What happened? Is spiritual power just a matter of using the right words or of really knowing Jesus personally? What did those who used to practice demonic magic repent of doing? Should we ever play with the practice of false religion and magic that tries to control spiritual forces?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Jude 24-25  Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Present yourself and those you protect in prayer (your "protectorate") to the Lord and ask that He would keep you all from stumbling.   Ask for grace and strength so that each of you finish the race of faith and are able, through Jesus, to be presented before Him blameless.
