Daily Scripture & Questions
II Thessalonians 1-3 This second letter to the Thessalonians is probably written shortly after the first, when Paul had received an update of what was happening back in Thessalonica.  In chapter one, what descriptions are used of the judgment on those who do not obey the gospel of Jesus?  How would this truth help the persecuted Christians endure?  What misunderstanding about the "day of the Lord" were they laboring under?  How does Paul correct this?  Whether caused by their misunderstanding of end times or just plain laziness, what were some of them doing that dishonored the Lord?  Make sure to note the great instructive passages on prayer in 1:11-12; 2:16; 3:1-5, 16.

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read
II Thessalonians 3:6-12. What were some of the people doing (or not doing) that was wrong? What rule did the apostle Paul give to deal with this problem? Do you have a good work ethic?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 58:6-9 O God, break the teeth in their mouths; tear out the fangs of the young lions, O LORD! Let them vanish like water that runs away; when he aims his arrows, let them be blunted. Let them be like the snail that dissolves into slime, like the stillborn child who never sees the sun. Sooner than your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or ablaze, may he sweep them away!

Give the heavenly Father the things that churn you up inside. Be honest with Him about the folks who are treating you or other people wrong. Plead for justice for the oppressed and vindication for the harassed.
