Daily Scripture & Questions
I Thessalonians 4-5 Write a title for the following paragraphs: 4:1-8, 9-12, 13-18; 5:1-11.  How do these words encourage and build us up (see 4:18, 5:11)?  Chapter 5 verses 12-28 is a series of short, powerful instructions.  What are the two most applicable ones that the Spirit is wanting you to welcome into your life today?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read
I Thessalonians 5:19-22. As we try to be open to the Spirit of God speaking to us in words He directs (though not with the authority of the Bible itself), what two extremes must we guard against? Why would some despise a special word from the Spirit through another person (a prophecy)? Why would some be tempted to receive all such words without testing them against God's authoritative revelation in the Bible? Do you think "open but cautious" captures the heart of what the apostle is teaching us?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 90:12-17  So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Return, O LORD! How long?  Have pity on your servants!  Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.  Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us, and for as many years as we have seen evil.  Let your work be shown to your servants, and your glorious power to their children.  Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us;  yes, establish the work of our hands!

Ask the Lord to help you number your days, remembering that this life is always short.   Instead of being sad at the brevity of life, rejoice in God's covenant-faithful love that provides eternal life for you through Jesus.  And ask Him to establish the work you are doing.
