Daily Scripture & Questions
James 1:1-3:1 James, the half-brother of Jesus, came to faith in Christ only after the resurrection.  He went on to be a key leader in the church of Jerusalem.  His letter is full of practical truths that emphasize living out our faith.  Some think that he contradicts the apostle Paul when he talks about faith and works, but the two are easily reconciled when we realize that Paul is talking about being justified in the sense of a legal declaration of righteousness. James, on the other hand, speaks of being justified as an outward demonstration of righteousness.  How is the section on the tongue in chapter three a good illustration of this (as a demonstration of what is inside)?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read
James 2:14-26. Read also Genesis 22:9-10. How did Abraham's actions demonstrate that he had been declared righteous by his faith as mentioned in Genesis 15:6. Does what you say or what you do prove your faith?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Hebrews 13:18-19 Pray for us, for we are sure that we have a clear conscience, desiring to act honorably in all things. I urge you the more earnestly to do this in order that I may be restored to you the sooner.

Make sure you have a clear conscience before the Lord. Ask Him to show you if there are any of your dealings that are less than honorable. Pray for God's blessing on those who are traveling, especially for the purposes of sharing the gospel.
