Daily Scripture & Questions
1 Samuel 4-8 What misconceptions did the people have about the power of the Ark of the Covenant?  Why were the Philistines affected as they were by the presence of the Ark?  How about the Israelites when the Ark was returned? Though the Ark is not magical, being a symbol of the presence of God, the blasphemy of the people of God of the Ark, in one way or the other, did have results.  How is that applicable to our day and age—thinking about perhaps church buildings or the Bible or pastors or church leaders?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read I Samuel 4:1-11. Sometimes people treat things, like the Ark of the Covenant, as if it had magical powers—like a "lucky rabbit's foot." Did just having the Ark with them mean that God's blessings were going to be with God's people? Why not?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 77:16-20
"When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook.  Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen.  You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron."

Exalt the God Who created everything, including the great displays of power we see in nature.  Ask God to make His leading clear through the leaders that you follow.  Beseech Him to be the Good Shepherd He has promised He will be.
