Daily Scripture & Questions
Acts 11-12 As Peter retells what happened in Caesarea, what does he make clear?  How wonderful it is that God has "granted repentance that leads to life" even to the Gentiles (11:18)!  More Gentiles come to faith in the city of Antioch, but that doesn't mean that everything was going easily for the early church.  James, one of the original 12 apostles, is killed fulfilling the word that was given in Mark 10:39.  Peter, who was told in John 21 that he would become an old man, is miraculously rescued.  How are verses 11:24 and 12:24 reminders that Jesus will build His church and that the gates of Hell will not be able to prevail against her?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read Acts 12:1-17. Why did Herod kill James and plan to kill Peter? Why were the guards killed? Would the guards at Jesus' tomb have been killed if they had fallen asleep at the job and let the disciples steal the body of Jesus as they claimed happened? How is this evidence for the truthfulness for the resurrection of Jesus from the dead?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 104:33-34  I will sing to the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have being.  May my meditation be pleasing to him, for I rejoice in the LORD.

Ask the Lord to fill your heart with singing.  Seek His help in making your moment-by-moment thoughts pleasing to Him.
