Daily Scripture & Questions
I John 2:28-5:20 We read again the last two verses of chapter two because they fit in with the theme of "little children" of 3:1-3.  Remember, the verse number and chapter breaks are later additions to help us find our way around the Bible—they are not part of the God-inspired text.  How can we tell who are the children of God and who are the children of the devil (2:28-3:10)? The idea of sinning here is not occasionally slipping into sin (that was dealt with back in 1:8), but now it is focused on the habitual practice of continual, unrepentant sinning.  We also know that we have passed out of death into life because we love other Christians.  The purpose of I John is found in 5:13. What are some of the tests that help us to know that we have eternal life?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read I John 5:13-21. Verse 13 gives us John's purpose statement for writing his letter. Sins that people seek forgiveness for do not have to lead to death, but sins that lead to death (unpardonable sins) are those of which a person will not repent. In a sense, people won't be forgiven when they are shaking their fist in God's face and rejecting the true teaching of Jesus while disobeying God's commands and persistently not loving believers. How do you deal with sin you have seen in your life?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 107:6-8 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.  He led them by a straight way till they reached a city to dwell in.  Let them thank the LORD for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!

Thank the Lord for the help He has provided you or loved ones in recent days. Exalt Him for His deliverance.
