Daily Scripture & Questions
Hebrews 7:11-10:18   Psalm 110 makes clear that there would be One who would come, Who would be a priest, not in the line of Aaron (Moses' brother), but in the order of the mysterious priest-king called Melchizedek (see Genesis 14).  Why is Jesus better according to 7:23-28?  Christ is not only the better Priest that we need, but He also ministers a better covenant than was promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 (see Hebrews 8:8-12).  The old covenant provisions did not ultimately deal with eternal redemption but pointed the way to the sacrifice of Jesus' life blood. The tabernacle and temple were but copies of the heavenly things, which Jesus fulfilled through His once-for-all sacrifice.  The Mosaic law made provisions for repeated sacrifices—they could never make perfect those who offered them. They looked ahead to the ultimate sacrifice, Jesus. After His ascension, Jesus sat down at the right hand of God, indicating His work was complete—no more sacrifices are needed. Our salvation is paid in full.  Rejoice in the complete provision that has been made for our salvation.

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read Hebrews 7:23-25; 8:6-7; 9:11-12, 24-28; 10:11-14. What is wonderful about Jesus' permanent priesthood (7:23-25)? What does Jesus mediate that is more excellent (8:6)? What did Jesus' sacrifice (His blood) secure for us (9:11-12)? Jesus didn't enter the temple to offer Himself, but into the heavenly original of which the temple was merely a copy. Are more sacrifices needed (see 9:24-28 and 10:11-14)? Rejoice that Jesus paid it all, and that we now have a pure conscience before God.

Biblical Prayer Focus
Luke 22:44-46
And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.  And when he rose from prayer, he came to the disciples and found them sleeping for sorrow, and he said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.”

Jesus agonized in prayer and yet so often we hardly pray.  Ask the Lord to help you be focused and alert in prayer so that you won't enter into temptation to betray or desert Him.
