Daily Scripture & Questions
Hebrews 4:14-7:10 Today our reading begins by teaching about Jesus as the great High Priest (4:14-5:10).  There is then a pause or parenthesis in the author's argument as he warns against apostasy in 5:11-6:12 and as he gives assurance of God's promises in 6:13-20.  The main argument about how Jesus is better resumes in 7:1-10.  Here we find that Jesus is the great High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.  What are the characteristics of Jesus, our High Priest, that should encourage us to draw near to the throne of grace?  Does Jesus know what it is like to be tempted?  To suffer?  The warning passage in 5:11-6:12 is very stern.  Why is such a strong warning needed for people who "neglect so great a salvation"?  We can have the assurance through the promise and the oath of God (6:13-20) because we have what sure and steadfast anchor for our souls?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read Hebrews 4:14-5:10. Why can we have confidence to draw near to the throne of grace? Has Jesus been tempted in every respect as we are, though He never gave in and sinned (4:17)? Has Jesus faced suffering (5:7-8)? Have you asked Him to help you in the temptations and suffering that you may be facing right now?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 116:12-14 What shall I render to the LORD for all his benefits to me?  I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD, I will pay my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.

Thank the LORD for all his benefits.  Exalt Him for the great salvation He provides. Ask for faithfulness in following through with the promises you've made to Him.
