Lamentations 1:1-3:39 We don't know for sure who wrote Lamentations, although often people consider that Jeremiah did. This collection of five large poems describe the destruction surrounding the fall of Jerusalem in 587 BC. The poems have variations of acrostic form, that is they begin each line or segment of the poem with the succeeding letter of the Hebrew alphabet. While chapters one and two relate to the horrible defeat, chapter three presents what about an individual who has turned to God and counsels the people to do the same?

Read Lamentations 3:16-33. This is the center of the book of Lamentations. This is the crucial turning point when we stop complaining about the injustices done to us and start turning to God. What did this person call to mind? How did that give him hope?

Psalm 43:1-3 "Vindicate me, O God, and defend my cause against an ungodly people, from the deceitful and unjust man deliver me! For you are the God in whom I take refuge; why have you rejected me? Why do I go about mourning because of the oppression of the enemy? Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling."
We battle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers (see Ephesians 6:12). Ask the Lord for protection and take up the full armor of God in preparation for the day ahead. Seek God's help in "letting go" of the grief you feel over the betrayal of others. Implore Him to let you see light and truth as you live for His glory and in His presence today.
