Daily Scripture & Questions
Obadiah This minor prophet (called minor because his prophecy is brief not because it is unimportant) is put here because of the parallels with what we read in Jeremiah 49.  The land of the nation Edom was rugged and mountainous, and they felt secure in their natural fortifications (verse 3).  However, destruction would come for them, but hope would be provided for God's people, the very people whom Edom despised.

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions
Read Obadiah verses 10-14. Obadiah prophesies about Edom's destruction. These verses tell us why God was going to punish them. What did these people do on the day of Jacob's (another name for Israel) destruction by Babylon? How do you treat other people of God on their very hard days when things aren't going very well at all?

Biblical Prayer Focus
Psalm 80:1-3
"Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth. Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up your might and come to save us! Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved!"

Especially on behalf of the persecuted church, pray for God's intervention for His people's sake. Ask Him to stir up His might and save His people. Pray for the soon return of Jesus.
