Daily Scripture & Questions
Jeremiah 35-37 Remember that Jeremiah's entire book is sort of piecemealed together because of the times in which it was written. It is not necessarily easily chronicled.  These chapters come from two different times.  Jehoiakim ruled from 609 to 597 BC.  Zedekiah ruled from 597-586 BC.  In chapter 35, how does God use the Rechabites for an illustration?  In chapter 36, what is the contrast between some of the leaders’ response to Jeremiah's dictated words, and what is King Jehoiakim's response?  From chapter 37, how is Jeremiah's warning to Zedekiah received?

Family Devotions—Scripture & Questions

Read Jeremiah 36:11-32. When Baruch read Jeremiah's words, how did some of the leaders respond? How do we sometimes treat God's Word like King Jehoiakim treated the scroll? When we hear God's Word, should we "fear"? What does that mean?

Biblical Prayer Focus
1 Peter 5:6-7 "Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. "

Bow your heart and perhaps your knees before the Lord, expressing your humility before Him. Ask Him to show you if there is anything you are doing to exalt yourself. If so, repent of it. Seek Him so that He can show you where you are carrying anxieties right now (it is easy to pretend that we aren't). Then cast them upon His broad shoulders. Pray the same for your protectorate.
