We all tend to fight back, withdraw or give in when others criticize us. This is especially true when they question our heart's motives. How should we respond to such attacks?

Most of us like to WIN. But the passage captured above is given by Paul in the context of sacrificing his rights (see text below). Winning is everything, but only if we have the right definition of what is a "win." May the Lord help us to refocus our competitive energy toward the success of the Gospel.

Paul: Firm on the Gospel

"Flip-flop" is the sound of politicians changing their positions again as the winds of the public opinion polls change. Yet "compromise" is often needed to move ahead to find solutions to the problems we face in daily life. The hard question we face before us is, "What must I be firm on, and on what may I compromise on?"

As we seek to become folks who can say, "Do as I do!" we must know the core truths that we cannot violate. In our so-called "tolerant" society, we must be able to decide if someone is faithful to the Gospel or if they are preaching "another Jesus." The inability to do this will lead to endangering our own souls and those of our loved ones that we influence. This is not something we can get wrong and not pay the price. May the Lord help us to firm up our grasp on the essentials of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

In this week's sermon we continue our study of the teachings of Paul.
