POWERHOUSE ADVENTURE TRIPS
Summers in Michigan & across the U.S.A.
Adventure Ministries is our summer front-door ministry to POWERHOUSE and is intentionally designed for students to invite their friends to come and investigate the truths of Christ. It is also designed for parents who are seeking a way to get their teens connected within POWERHOUSE or with other teenagers. Adventure trips are loaded with fun, and where many students speak as much about the road trip as they do about the trip itself! Our desire is that students talk about how these trips impacted their lives for years to come! And quite honestly...they do!
Adventure Ministries is designed for students to enjoy and explore God's country, while exploring the inner country of their own souls and lives. It utilizes the outdoors as a platform to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, to open up conversations about faith, and to experience Christian community. Adventure Ministry spans a bridge between spring to fall by providing a variety of adventure experiences, in God's classroom, that integrates God's work within Christian community.
Adventure Ministries has developed a cycle of outdoor trips, appropriately targeted for specific ages. We have taken our sixth-seventh graders to Silver Lake, involving a lot of water games and sports; also to North Manitou Island on a 3-4 day backpacking trip. The eighth-ninth grade students have enjoyed a 5-6 day trip rotating from TAM_ECO (Trek Across Michigan Habitat Challenge), where students trek (in many forms) across the lower peninsula from Lake Michigan to Lake Huron; or canoeing on the Rowdy River or down the Muskegon River to Lake Michigan. The tenth-twelve grade students rotate from a 9 - 10 day trip either in Wyoming, backpacking through the Wind River Range & Teton Mountains; Temagami, Canada on a self-contained canoe trip through beautiful rivers, lakes and landscapes; or to West Virginia, white water rafting, rock climbing & rappelling & spelunking. The 12+ trip targeting eighteen-twenty-five year olds is a 9 - 10 day trip usually happening in Michigan but the specifics are kept somewhat secretive; however, its purpose revolves around outdoor/wilderness training, spiritual development and leadership skills. All of the leaders are Caring for Kids approved, with most of them having been trained in First Aid, CPR or First Responder. On the majority of the trips we require that a doctor, nurse or EMT/EMS is with us.
EXPOSURE EVENTS - All Four Seasons
Exposure Events are purposeful opportunities to show students that a Christian community knows how to have a good time. POWERHOUSE sponsors four large seasonal events that are Christ-centered-fun, where students can see the Christian community in a positive light and move a little closer to Christ.
These seasonal events have included the Mud Bowl, Capture the Flag, Super Bowl Party, Roller Skating, Dodge-ball Tournament and Open Gym Night at the FSU Recreation Center. At each of these activities POWERHOUSE provides ways to help connect students to our ministry as well as asking students to share their testimonies or how POWERHOUSE has made an impact in their lives. Our first objective is to reach out to new and visiting students, build trust between them and a leader or fellow student and take a moment to introduce and invite them to Club or on an Adventure Trip.
