Turkey Shoot? BUGA? What’s a turkey shoot and
what’s this buGa thing? BuGa, which stands for boys
understanding God through adventure (guGa for the girls), is a
Trinity ministry with the goal to give 4th and 5th grade kids an
opportunity to have relational time with their fathers. The
turkey shoot is an awesomely fun avenue to do that very thing.
We believe that dads truly desire to impact their children, but
often time flies by. buGa provides dads with opportunities to
take time to show their sons (and daughters) the importance of
relationship with each other and the Lord.
This was the eighth annual Turkey shoot and
despite the nasty weather the night before around 50 children
and their fathers (and or grandfathers) showed up and had loads
of fun and time to play together. I don’t remember anyone who
didn’t have a smile from morning pancakes through all of the
stations. The sound of laughter, yells of encouragement, cheers
of victory mixed were punctuated with the blast of the cannon
moving teams from station to station. Targeting turkey’s (paper,
wood or metal) with everything from slingshot’s to 22 rifles,
blowguns to paint guns, arrows to axes and everything you can
think of in between.
This all couldn’t have been done without the
volunteers. Thank you to all the wonderful people who gave of
their time, talents, and energy to make memories for those who
participated. Thanks especially to Harry and Gail King, Bruce
Gregory and Vince Carter. Your leadership for this event has
planted seed in scores of our young people!!! |
